Launching a new periodic post for your Technology improvement
The purpose will be to integrate, improve and streamline your processes to improve efficiency.
First Installment
For the past few years, apps have been growing at an astronomical rate. Everyone uses at least some apps whether they are mobile or web, these apps increase efficiency with a caveat. If you use apps for multiple processes, you actually start decreasing efficiency because you are going from one app to the next app performing different steps.
Consider this: There are ways to connect or string together triggers in a way that you do not have to intervene. It is done automatically in the background.
- Zapier: this web based service uses a simple interface to link together different apps, webapps, calendar, sms or email. It is simple with little or no coding knowledge, you can string them together by connecting them to Zapier. Currently, Zapier integrates over 1000 apps. It starts with a trigger, then the “Zap” starts doing its work behind the scenes. A trigger is something that you that starts the process, for instance, a new customer or client. A new sales receipt or donation is received. Think about what happens physically in your office once these “triggers” happen. Automatically, the new client could be added to your accounting software (provided it can integrate with Zapier) or you could enter it in your CRM and assign someone to reach out to the new client. All done automatically by linking together different software apps.
- IFTT: this service has been around for a few years. It stands for If This, Then That. In other words, if this happens (trigger), then this happens (the resultant process). This is more tailored to personal use. This is an easy way to be introduced to how to use these services. It offers templates which are already basically designed, all you have to do is plug in your accounts. Offers everything from Wifi templates on your cell phone, your home, your work etc. If you can think of things you do everyday on your cell phone to get information or perform functions, it is probably already thought of and designed.
